A sentence is illegal if it does not conform to the applicable statutory provisions, either in character or punishment. An illegal sentence can be corrected at any time. 2. Kansas law allows district courts to order restitution as part of a criminal defendant's sentence. Restitution includes, but is not limited to, damage or loss caused by the defendant's crime.
