This is an action for defamation of character. Hpon tbe trial of the cause tbe jury returned a verdict in favor of tbe respondent for $1,000. Six communications defamatory of tbe respondent were alleged to bave been made by tbe appellant, three of which were *239taken by tbe court from the consideration of the jury. The other three were submitted, and it will be necessary to notice only these. They were as follows:
