The Sanitary District of Chicago filed its petition in the circuit court of Will county to ascertain the compensation to be paid for different pieces of land described in the petition and alleged to be required for its use. August Haase owned part of one of these tracts and Lena Bernstein owned part of another, and they were made defendants. There was a preliminary hearing, at which they appeared by their attorney and established their respective titles.
