In an action to recover damages for personal injuries, the defendant appeals from an order of the Supreme Court, Suffolk County (Luciano, J.), entered April 15, 1987, which denied its motion for summary judgment.

It is alleged in this action that the defendant Ford Motor Company (hereinafter Ford) is liable to the plaintiffs for the injuries suffered by the plaintiff Arthur Narciso after a van manufactured by Ford spontaneously shifted its gear from "park” to "reverse”.
