Designed to transport oil from the Bakken oil fields in North Dakota to a storage hub in southern Illinois, the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) has also borne substantial controversy-in its wake. Most significant has been the opposition from Indian tribes .whose reservations lie in close proximity to the pipeline’s crossing of the Missouri River at Lake Oahe.
