In Johnson v. Jones, 515 U.S. 304,-- -, 115 S.Ct. 2151, 2156-59, 132 L.Ed.2d 238 (1995), the Supreme Court discussed the circumstances in which a district court’s denial of a public official’s attempt to dispose of a claim for money damages by means of a pretrial motion asserting qualified immunity might be immediately appealable. Shortly thereafter, in Stella v. Kelley, 63 F.3d 71, 73-77 (1st Cir.1995), we applied Johnson and elaborated upon our understanding of it.
