Plaintiff Shawn Lewis initiated this action against the City of New York (“City”), Police Officers Dean Anagnostos, Shakmawa Hafiz 1 (“defendants”), Sergeant John Marchello and other unknown officers, asserting claims under 42 U.S.C. § 1983 and New York common law. After certain of plaintiffs claims were dismissed, trial proceeded against all named defendants on the plaintiffs claims of excessive force under § 1983 and battery under New York law.
