In April 1999 defendant, Lewie Robinson, Jr., was charged by information with unlawful possession of less than 15 grams of a controlled substance (cocaine). 720 ILCS 570/402(c) (West 1998). The charge resulted from the stop of a vehicle in which defendant was a passenger and was searched by an officer of the Sandwich police department.
