Betty LaPoint was charged with cannabis trafficking (720 ILCS 550/5.1(a) (West 2002)) and unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to deliver (720 ILCS 550/5(g) (West 2002)). She filed a motion to suppress the cannabis, alleging that it was obtained through an unreasonable search and seizure in violation of the federal and state constitutions (U.S. Const., amend. IV; Ill. Const. 1970, art. I, § 6). The judge denied both her motion to suppress and her subsequent motion to reconsider.
