MANION, Circuit Judge.
Volkswagen of America, Inc. terminated Jakob Unterreiner from his position as District Service Manager for the company, effective June 30,1988. Almost one year later, on June 23, 1989, Unterreiner filed a charge with the Illinois Department of Human Rights (IDHR), claiming that he was terminated because of his age. The IDHR cross-filed that charge with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). Both the IDHR and the EEOC dismissed Unterreiner’s claim because he failed to file his charge within the 300-day statutory limitation period. See 29 U.S.C. § 626(d)(2).…
