Shortly after midnight on May 28, 1967, the dead body of Catherine McMenamin was discovered lying on *42the ground near Boxborough High School in Philadelphia. The appellant, Withers Ponton, was later indicted for her murder, and after a jury trial was found guilty of murder in the first degree. On this direct appeal from the judgment of sentence of life imprisonment, three issues are raised.1
