McGEE, Judge.

Defendants appeal an opinion and award by the North Carolina Industrial Commission (Commission) awarding workers’ compensation payments to plaintiff for an injury to plaintiffs ear sustained *403while working for defendant employer. Plaintiff testified that he had worked as a lumber grader for defendant employer for some four years prior to the injury. Plaintiffs job entailed sitting or standing before a set of chains which carried boards to be graded. A console to control the chains was located behind plaintiff, and plaintiff had to turn around to stop the chains with the console.
