In State v. Faulkner, 301 Md. 482, 483 A.2d 759 (1984), characterizing it as a “mitigation defense,” see Sims v. State, 319 Md. 540, 554, 573 A.2d 1317, 1323 (1990); Dykes v. State, 319 Md. 206, 216, 571 A.2d 1251, 1257 (1990), we recognized imperfect self-defense, 301 Md. at 484, 499-501, 483 A.2d at 760, 768-69, and applied it in a prosecution for the statutory offense of assault with intent to murder.
