Supreme Court of North Carolina

1Opinion of the Court

PARKER, Justice.

Defendant Mamie Delois Jean Bishop was tried capitally on indictments charging her with first-degree murder and first-degree arson. The jury found defendant guilty of first-degree murder and second-degree arson. Following a capital sentencing proceeding, the jury recommended a sentence of life imprisonment; and the trial court entered judgment accordingly. The trial court also imposed a consecutive sentence of forty years’ imprisonment for second-degree arson. For the reasons discussed herein, we conclude that defendant’s trial was free from prejudicial error.
