The plaintiff as indorsee has brought this suit against the defendant as indorser of a promisory note, bearing date' on August 25, 1836, made by Messrs. Wheeler & Perkins of Augusta, payable to the defendant or order in four months, and by him indorsed iff blank. It was also indorsed by Ira D. Bugbee, as cashier of the bank of Cumber*395land, and transmitted to the cashier of the Augusta Bank for collection.
