A Chatham County jury found Lemuel Rouse guilty beyond a reasonable doubt of kidnapping with bodily injury, OCGA § 16-5-40; three counts of aggravated assault, OCGA § 16-5-21 (a) (2); two counts of aggravated battery, OCGA § 16-5-24 (a); and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, OCGA § 16-11-106 (b). He appeals from the denial of his motion for new trial, contending that the trial court erred in failing to merge some of his convictions and in finding that trial counsel’s representation of him did not constitute ineffective assistance.
