Nora Chaib worked for The GEO Group, Inc., á private company that managed a correctional facility for the State of Indiana. She was fired for “unbecoming conduct” because she improperly extended her medical leave following a workplace injury. Chaib sued GEO Group under Title VII, 42 U.S.C. § 2000e et seq., and 42 U.S.C. § 1981, alleging discrimination on the basis of sex, race, and national origin, and retaliation for her reports of workplace discrimination.
