The plaintiff-appellant, Rosemary Patterson (“Patterson”), a teacher at a special education school operated by the defendant-appellee, Chicago Association for Retarded Citizens (“CARC”), was dismissed from her job on May 18, 1995, for exhibiting “inappropriate behavior.” Patterson filed suit in district court, alleging she was wrongfully terminated under the Americans with Disabilities Act (“ADA”), 42 U.S.C. § 12117.
