During the technology boom of the late 1990s, Patricia Aboud organized several credit scams to defraud computer equipment suppliers. To recover losses resulting from one of these scams, ePlus Technology, Inc. (“ePlus”) filed a civil action in the Eastern District of Virginia, asserting that Aboud had violated state tort law and the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, 18 U.S.C. §§ 1961-1968 (“RICO”).
