WALLACE, Circuit Judge.

The decree appealed from adjudged that the steam tugs, the Mason and the Babcock, were liable in rem for the damages sustained by the steamship Gratwick in consequence of her being stranded upon the rocks in the channel leading from the port of Buffalo to Lake Erie through the negligence of the tugs while they were engaged in towing her. Two questions are presented by the appeal: First, whether the tugs, or either of them, were guilty of any negligence in performing the.towage service; and, second, assuming that the stranding was caused by the negligence of the tug…
