In this case, the plaintiffs, Mrs. Elaine Hooker and Mrs. June E. Murphy, are the widows of fireman Michael Hooker (fireman Hooker) and fireman James Murphy (fireman Murphy), respectively. Both fireman Hooker and fireman Murphy were injured in the course of their active duty in the service of the Chicago fire department (CFD) with injuries that rendered them incapable of returning to active service.
