After a jury trial in April 1996, defendant, Bradley Adams, was found guilty of four counts of first degree murder, one count of aggravated battery, and one count of concealment of a homicide. 720 ILCS 5/9 — 1(a), 12 — 4(a), 9 — 3.1 (West 1994). In June 1996, the court vacated the aggravated battery conviction and imposed an extended term of 65 years’ imprisonment for first degree murder and a consecutive 5-year term for concealment of a homicide.
