LARSON, Chief Judge:
The appellant was convicted, contrary to his pleas, by general court-martial before a military judge sitting alone of desertion with intent to avoid hazardous duty and/or to shirk important service and missing movement, in violation of Articles 85 and 87, Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), 10 U.S.C. §§ 885 and 887, respectively. He was sentenced to confinement for 30 months, forfeiture of all pay and allowances, reduction to pay grade E-l, and a dishonorable discharge. The convening authority approved the sentence but suspended all confinement beyond 20 December 1991…
