In this class-action lawsuit, two female police officers successfully challenged the promotion procedures of the Police Department of the City of Montgomery, Alabama as, among other things, sexually discriminatory in violation of 42 U.S.C.A. § 1983 and 42 U.S.C.A. §§ 2000e through 2000e-17 (otherwise known as Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended).
