The defendant appeals from a jury verdict in Superi- or Court {Johnson, J.) finding him guilty of kidnapping, RSA 633:1 (Supp. 1983). We affirm in part, reverse in part, and remand.

The facts relevant to the issues raised on appeal are as follows. *148The victim in this case, a nine-year-old girl, reported to her family that on the afternoon of May 23, 1983, a man had taken her in his car to a secluded area in Canaan, on the pretext of looking for his lost dog, and had sexually assaulted her at knifepoint prior to her escaping from him.
