The New York is an upscale apartment house located on North Lake Shore Drive in Chicago. Believing that the advertisements its owners used to lure potential tenants to The New York were racially discriminatory, in violation of the Fair Housing Act, 42 U.S.C. § 3604, Anthony Tyus, Thomas Walker, and a number of fair housing groups brought this case against the individuals (and their wholly owned companies) who developed, operated, and managed The New York.
