This case involves the constitutionality of the Act of the Congress of the United States, passed on the 25th day of February, 1862, entitled “An Act to authorize the issue of United States notes and for the redemption or funding thereof, and for funding the floating debt of the United States,” so far as it provides and declares that the notes to be issued by virtue thereof shall be lawful money and a legal tender in the payment of all debts, public and private, within the United States, except duties on imports and interest on the bonds and notes of the United States.…
