On September 15,1975, the plaintiff fell in a hole in the sidewalk at 425 W. State Street in the city of Rockford. On May 24,1976, notice was given to the city of Rockford pursuant to the provisions of section 8 — 102 of the Local Governmental and Governmental Employees Tort Immunity Act (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1975, ch. 85, par. 8 — 102). On September 23,1976, plaintiff filed the instant complaint against the city of Rockford.
