NICHOLS, Justice.

This appeal requires our assessment of the validity of an option agreement between the City of Eastport and The Pitt-ston Company, the successor in interest to Metropolitan Petroleum Company, regarding the sale by the City of the present Eastport Municipal Airport and an adjoining public park.

Contending that this option agreement and amendments thereto were void, several users of the airport and certain resident taxpayers of the City of Eastport commenced suit in Superior Court, Washington County, on June 2, 1980, seeking a declaration that the option agreement and amendments…
