HENDERSON, Circuit Judge:
In 1966, several black school teachers, including the appellees, filed suit against the appellants, Sweeny Independent School District and several of its officials (hereinafter referred to as “the School District”), charging racial discrimination in the School District’s decision not to rehire them for the 1966-67 school year, the first in which the School District desegregated its schools.
