Plaintiff CoolSavings — a Michigan corporation having its headquarters and principal place of business in Chicago — sued defendant IQ.Commeree Corporation (“IQ”) for infringement of United States Patent No. 5,761,648 (“the ’648 patent”). The ’648 patent claims a data processing system that allows CoolSavings to issue electronic certificates (advertisements and coupons) over interactive online networks, such as the Internet.
