On June 7, 1940, James Tucker was employed as a laborer by the Holly Hill Lumber Company. The work he was engaged in was clearing a right-of-way for a bridge across the Wateree River, and in order to get to his work it was necessary for him and his other fellow servants to cross the river. For this purpose the Holly Plill Lumber Company provided a boat.
