This case concerns the tragic circumstances of a new mother who, immediately after giving birth to a healthy baby, suffered a stroke that left her with severe physical and psychological handicaps. The underlying issue is whether a jury reasonably could have found that her stroke resulted from a preexisting brain defect rather than from the malpractice of her anesthesiologist.
