INTRODUCTION
A. Background.
This is a collection action filed in October 1983. The cases were begun by Seattle-First National Bank (“Seattle-First”) against 35 defendants (the “defendants”), including Bernard Edwards (the “defendant”), to enforce notes which these defendants executed in favor of Penn Square Bank (“Penn Square”) in order to purchase limited partnership interests in an oil and gas tax shelter, Onyx Private Drilling Program, Ltd.-1981 (“Onyx Program”).
