SCOTT, Justice.

Stuart Burniece (“Burniece”) was injured in an automobile accident on March 29, 1977. At the time of that accident, Bur-niece was the named insured under two policies of insurance issued by Illinois Farmers Insurance Company (“Illinois Farmers”). These policies provided income loss benefits pursuant to Minn.Stat. § 65B.44, subd. 8 (1984), which provides: “Disability and income loss benefits shall provide compensation for 85 percent of the injured person’s loss of present and future gross income from inability to work proximately caused by the nonfatal injury subject to a…
