The defendants appeal from the judgment.

By regular proceedings under the Street Opening Act of 1903 (Stats. 1903, p. 376), and subsequent amendments thereto, the city council of Los Angeles ordered the opening of Arlington Street across a strip of land owned in fee by the defendant Southern Pacific Company and used by it as a part of its right of way for its railroad, and directed the city attorney to bring an action in the name of the city for the condemnation of the interest of the defendants in the land necessary to be taken for said crossing.
