Pfeifer v. Copperstone Restaurant & Lounge, Inc.

This is an action for wrongful death of a 12-year-old boy brought by the personal representative of decedent’s estate against a tavern, a bartender and the driver of an auto which went through a red light, striking the car in which decedent was a passenger. The primary issue is whether the jury verdict awarding punitive damages of $100,000 against the tavern and $10,000 against the bartender was proper. Defendants do not deny liability for plaintiffs death and have already paid the jury verdict for compensatory damages, costs and disbursements. We affirm the judgment for punitive damages.
