Our largest state, estimated at between 357,000,000 and 375,000,000 acres, Alaska remains, to this day, an area with undetermined and shifting land ownership. The Alaska Statehood Act, passed in 1953, authorized the new state to select over 100,-000,000 acres of federal land from desig nated areas during a period of thirty-five years.
