FOTI, J.

The plaintiff, Michael J. LaPia, Jr., appeals from a decision rendered by the compensation review board (board) affirming the commissioner’s order awarding attorney’s fees of $41,732 to the plaintiffs former attorney, Harold Brienes.

On appeal, the plaintiff claims that the board improperly determined (1) that workers’ compensation commissioner John A. Arcudi had jurisdiction to order an award of attorney’s fees, and (2) that Arcudi did not engage in improper ex parte communications with Brienes. Because we agree with the second of those claims, we reverse the board’s decision…
