GRODIN, J.

Petitioner was employed by respondent Emco Distributors on June 13, 1975, when he sustained an on-the-job injury to his back. The judge who heard his case for the Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board found him to be 100 percent disabled by reason of that injury, but on reconsideration, the board decided that 19 percent of his disability was attributable to a prior back injury which petitioner suffered while working for the employer’s predecessor, and reduced his award accordingly.
