WERLEIN, Justice.
Appellant, Eugene D. Guthrie, third engineer of the SS MacDonald, brought this suit under the Jones Act, 46 U.S.C.A. § 688 and for unseaworthiness against ap-pellee, Sinclair Refining Company, to recover for personal injuries sustained by him about 2 o’clock a. m., July 26, 1955, when he stepped on a short length of line which lay on a lower deck level to which he had descended from the operating platform for the purpose of replacing a light bulb which had just burned out.
