After appellant, Blake Anthony Mo-nakino, pleaded guilty to the second-degree felony offense of aggravated assault without an agreed punishment recommendation from the State, the trial court assessed his punishment at -six years’ confinement. 1 Although appellant timely filed a pro se notice of appeal, the trial court, believing that appellant did not have the right to appeal, did not appoint appellate counsel until several months later.
