Upon this record three questions are presented for consideration: First, is the Wiggins Ferry Company shown to be liable for the rental reserved by the lease? second, are the Venice & Carondelet and the East St. Louis Connecting Railways parallel or competing lines of railway? and, third, do the leases amount to a “consolidation,” within the meaning of the constitution of ,the state of Illinois prohibiting the consolidation of the stock, franchises, or property of parallel or competing lines of railway?
