This is a contract action of some moment. Washington Mutual Bank (WaMu), the largest savings and loan (or “thrift”) in the country, failed in a spectacular way when the housing bubble burst in 2007-08. On September 25, 2008, the Office of Thrift Supervision seized WaMu and transferred ownership of the thrift to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC).
