I. Introduction

In this action brought under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974, 29 U.S.C. §§ 1001 et séq. (“ERISA”), Julie Cowern (“Ms. Cowern”) challenges the decision of The Prudential Insurance Company of America (“Prudential”) to terminate her benefits under the Staples Voluntary Long Term Disability Plan (the *446“LTD Plan”), administered and underwritten by Prudential and sponsored by her former employer, Staples, Inc: (“Staples”).
