The sole question in this case is whether the United States District Court for the Southern District of California has jurisdiction to issue a writ of habeas corpus ad prosequendum directing a New York City prison official to deliver petitioner, a prisoner of that City, to California *612for trial on an indictment pending in the California court.1 Both the District Court and the Court of Appeals have held that such jurisdiction does exist. 277 F. 2d 433.
