The defendant, Frank R. Lucero, appeals his conviction for assault in the first degree on a peace officer, section 18-3-202(1)(e), C.R.S. 1973 (1978 Repl. Vol. 8), and his punishment as a habitual offender, section 16-13-101(1), C.R.S 1973 (1978 Repl. Vol. 8, 1979 Supp.). The defendant represented himself at the trial and urges several grounds for reversal. His principal contentions are that he was denied his right to counsel and that the trial court erroneously denied his request for a trial continuance.
