Georgia L. Howie appeals the district court’s decision granting summary judgment in favor of U.S. Bank, N.A. (U.S. Bank) on U.S. Bank’s mortgage foi'eclosure petition. Georgia claims that U.S. Bank is barred from foreclosing on the mortgage for two reasons. First, Georgia argues that the mortgage debt was *691extinguished because U.S. Bank had failed to demand payment on the promissory note, signed solely by her late husband, within the time prescribed under K.S.A. 59-2239(1) after her husband’s death.
