In Strickland v. Washington, 466 U.S. 668, 104 S. Ct. 2052, 80 L. Ed. 2d 674 (1984), the United States Supreme Court established a two-prong test for determining if a criminal defendant’s right to effective assistance of counsel under the Sixth Amendment to the United States Constitution has been violated by the deficient performance of counsel.
