BEAM, Circuit Judge.
Paul Kreutzer appeals the district court’s denial of his 28 U.S.C. § 2254 petition for habeas corpus relief. Because we find Kreutzer’s petition is untimely, we affirm.
I. BACKGROUND
Kreutzer raped and killed Louise Hemp-hill, a housewife who was home alone when the assault occurred. Hemphill suffered stab wounds and multiple blows to the head, but the cause of death was strangulation with a belt.
